As a testament to the gut-brain axis, a new study on Lactobacillus rhamnosus (GG) showed that continued use (about three months) improved memory. This study could greatly benefit us all with the rise in memory issues as we age.
The researchers found that the Prevotella genus of microbes in the gut was connected to cognitive decline or memory loss. L. rhamnosus was added to the gut to out-compete the Prevotella, suppressing populations and decreasing its negative effects on memory.
More studies will be conducted; however, this shows promise of added benefits from probiotic supplementation.
